The solar market is growing considerably, and so do job opportunities. Whereas the renewables sector in general, and solar in particular, employ significantly more women than traditional energy sectors, there is a need to further improve gender and diversity balance and a sense of inclusivity of all talent, irrespective of gender at all levels of the organization.
Gender inequality is most evident in STEM jobs and at decision-making levels in many organisations where gender bias is still prevalent.
Studies show that women bring new perspectives, innovation, and improve collaboration in the workplace. Increasing the number of qualified women in leadership positions also increases the organisation’s performance.
As the European solar sector’s association, SolarPower Europe is initiating this Solar Gender Champion Awards: to bring visibility to the importance of gender balance, support the substantial efforts that are still needed for a more diverse workforce, and highlight great examples to increase gender balance within an organisation. The winners of the Solar Gender Champion Awards will be voted at the upcoming SolarPower Summit.
The voting will take place at the SolarPower Summit 2021 on 10 May.
The proposals of companies participating in the Solar Gender Champion Awards 2021 will be reviewed by a selected jury. At the SolarPower Summit 2021, three finalists will present their sustainability story, which will be voted by the event participants. The winner will be awarded Solar Gender Champion 2021.
